The Riverside JACL participated in the annual Citrus Festival at the California Citrus State Historic Park in Riverside CA. The festival included: Citrus Tastings, Cooking Demonstrations, Historic & Cultural Exhibits, Food & Drink Specialty Craft Vendors, Lawn Games, Storytelling, Music and Fun.
Renaming the school pays tribute to the contributions of Japanese immigrants and also promotes
diversity, inclusivity, and recognition of different cultural backgrounds.
The Riverside Unified School Board voted unanimously in June to rename Highland Elementary
School to Harada Elementary School. It’s the first school in Riverside, named after an Asian
American family.
Each year, a number of participants are selected to participate in the JACL Kakehashi Program, coordinated by the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) and the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE), and supported by funding from the Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
